Neugestaltung der Strassen- und Platzräume

A design competition amongst five teams was held to refurbish the main street in Zug, Switzerland. This project was selected to be built, proposing an urban toolbox to be applied over time, with phasing adaptable to available city budgets.
The kit of parts is based on reinforcement of the main street connecting various spaces and neighborhoods. Components include white asphalt paving and overhead line of lighting, bus stops, and a catalog of curb materials. Public squares along the street are each reinforced in terms of identification with new objects placed into them, such as rows of trees planted perpendicular to the street or a new media tower.
The project addresses both those fixed spatial aspects of a street that are relatively permanent as well as those social events that change over time, such as the circus parade, the carnival, and a yearly skating competition.
